DVDs are relatively less sensitive compared to other storage media. You can actually touch the part of the DVD where data are stored without damaging it. They are also still capable of playing even with light scratches. Despite these facts, DVDs still need protection for they are prone to scratches and breaks that may stop them from functioning. For this reason, there are many types of boxes that are meant to store and protect DVDs. Here are the three types of DVD boxes:
Carton Boxes
Instead of plastic cases with DVD cover inserts, some movies and other media stored in DVDs are packaged in carton boxes. These carton boxes serve as both the hardcover protection of the DVDs and the cover art as well. The designs are directly printed on them. They can sometimes be fancier than regular DVD cover inserts, so some manufacturers choose them for promotional purposes.
Set boxes
Set boxes are commonly found with special editions of commercially available video DVDs, like TV series or movie trilogies. They may serve as boxes that bind several individual DVD cases together. In this case, both the cases and the set boxes may contain DVD cover art. Set boxes may also be designed so that they already contain the DVDs by attaching plastic holders in them.
Storage boxes
These boxes are often used to organize a number of DVDs in your houses. In theory, they are safer than DVD racks that can topple at anytime, especially the taller ones. Storage boxes are more stable, and some of them are designed such to fit DVD cases perfectly. They are made from different materials, such as plastic, wood, metal and carton, while others are even covered with leather. Some may have handles on two sides for easy carriage.
