BusinessAdept.com/label-printingDVDs are among the most useful file storage devices. Not only are they used for movies, but they also contain presentations, media files and other digital data. DVDs are even more appealing if their cases have DVD cover inserts. We are all familiar with how a DVD case looks because it had been the standard case for DVDs since their inception. The case is called an "Amaray". Although there are many variations in the DVD cases available now, standard Amaray cases are black, with a transparent sleeve on the outside where you place the DVD cover insert and a holder inside where you place the DVD.
Since there is a standard case used for DVDs, you can follow that standard size when making DVD covers. The standard DVD cover size is 272 x 184 mm. Because the size of the front and the back of the DVD cover are the same, you can measure 129 mm from each sides towards the center to mark their ends. The remaining small strip in the middle of the two sides, sized at 14 mm., is the spine. There are cases that have thicker spines since they contain more DVDs. To be safe, you must measure these special cases to come up with the right DVD cover size.
When making a custom DVD cover, you can follow the above sizes, but just to be sure, you can add 3 mm. on all sides of the cover as extra so that when you are cut the excess paper on the sides, no small white parts without print are visible. Of course, you do not place anything on these 3 mm. allowances on the sides and merely extend the background. Additionally, you have to place all the important elements of the DVD cover, such as the texts and images, 2 mm. away from the edge of all sides. This applies to the sides of the spine as well. This also ensures that such details will not be removed when cutting or made unreadable when folding the spine.
