Tips in Creating DVD Cover Scans

Even DVD movies are prone to the crazy things that can happen in this world. They may get stolen, they may have an accident, or they may be damaged in some weird way. For people who have a DVD collection, protecting them from the above misfortunes is a top priority. They create back-ups of their DVD movies in their hard drives or empty DVDs.

People often forget to create a back-up of their DVD covers. These are integral parts of the DVD for movie fans and a collection with DVD covers will simply look better. You can download some of them from the Internet, but some of them are rare and cannot be found on the Net. You can prevent some potential loss by scanning your DVD covers.

It is advisable that you flatten the covers first before creating the DVD cover scans. A stack of heavy books can do the trick. Start by removing the DVD cover inserts from the DVD cases and laying them flat under the books. Within a day, you can already see a difference, but it is optimal for them to stay there for at least a week. After this period, you'll notice that they are a lot flatter and have fewer wrinkles.

You may now proceed with the actual creation of the DVD cover scans. Set the printer to a 600 dpi resolution if you are planning to retouch the DVD covers through a photo editing software. If not, 300 dpi will do for printing and will save you some disk space. You can also save the DVD covers in this resolution after retouching them.

Make sure that you position the DVD covers in-line with the scanner. After scanning, save them in whatever storage device you want. You may also participate in websites that share DVD cover scans.
